Why it matters beyond the physical
Your emotional wellbeing, stress levels, environment, and daily rhythms are part of your pregnancy experience.Ayurveda has emphasized the importance of the mother's wellbeing and environment during pregnancy for generations through traditions such as Garbh Sanskar, or "nurturing the womb."Modern research is now exploring how the prenatal environment may influence fetal development—including through hormonal, physiological, and potentially epigenetic pathways.
Maternal stress and other prenatal exposures are being studied for their potential effects on fetal and infant development.
Practices such as meditation, mindful breathing, music, and intentional daily routines have long been part of traditional approaches to supporting maternal wellbeing.2

Healing Body after Birth
New Mom Flow
Gentle, restorative yoga to help you heal, rebuild strength, and feel like yourself again.

Why Movement Helps
In a randomized trial of 57 women with postpartum depression, eight weeks of yoga improved mood, anxiety, and quality of life.4New Mom Flow is a movement class, not treatment. If you're struggling, talk to your doctor too — this works best alongside that care.

Handling Sleep Deprivation Postpartum
Sleep Restored
A restorative sleep practice for exhausted bodies.
A short breathing practice you can do lying down, to settle a wired nervous system
Yoga Nidra, or Non-Sleep Deep Rest (NSDR) — 20 minutes of guided rest when your sleep is broken.
A simple wind-down for the evening, so you're not lying awake at 11pm after finally getting the baby down

What does Research say
In neuroscience the practice is called Non-Sleep Deep Rest (NSDR) while Ayurveda calls it yoga nidra. You lie down. You follow a gentle guided sequence — breath, body awareness, rest. No experience needed and works in ten or twenty minutes. That's why it fits this season.
A 2026 review of 73 studies and over 5,000 people found yoga nidra lowered stress, anxiety, and depression5. A separate 2026 review of randomized trials looked at sleep specifically, and found yoga nidra improved sleep quality across a range of groups6.These studies didn't include new mothers — postpartum women are rarely studied. One small pilot study after birth did find lower depressive symptoms.7

What Moms Say
A Teacher Rooted in Both Tradition and Real Life
Hi, I'm Sharika, founder of iSum and your guide through this journey. I found breathwork in high school, while I was stressed about choosing "the right college." What I found instead was SKY Breath Meditation, which I've practiced since 2004.As an immigrant, I was afraid of being judged for the way I looked and sounded. I had a master's degree, but I took a job in the infant room at KinderCare. That year taught me one important thing: babies respond to my inner calm and my breath.Years later came infertility, then hyperemesis in both pregnancies — sick for months, and bone tired. Meditation and breathwork didn't fix any of that. But they gave me a way to breathe through it, and quiet my mind, when nothing else did.
